Oven Bacon Recipe

If you’re not already cooking bacon in the oven, it’s time to make the switch! Oven-baked bacon is the easiest way to get perfectly crispy, evenly cooked bacon without the mess. This method will simplify your mornings and transform your breakfast routine forever!

Why Bake Bacon in the Oven?

There are so many reasons why oven-baking bacon is the best method. Here’s why:

  • Perfect Results Every Time: Baking bacon ensures even cooking and prevents the bacon from curling.
  • Less Mess: No more grease splattering all over your stove or kitchen counters.
  • Batch Cooking: You can make a lot of bacon at once, perfect for feeding a crowd.
  • Easy to Customize: It’s easy to add spices or seasonings for unique flavors.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 package of bacon: Use your favorite brand or type.
  • Parchment paper (or heavy-duty foil, or a silicone baking mat)
  • Wire rack (optional, for extra crispiness)
  • Paper towels (to absorb extra grease)

Optional Toppings:

  • Brown sugar: Sprinkle brown sugar over the bacon before baking for a caramelized, sweet touch.
  • Cracked black pepper: Add a sprinkle of pepper for a savory balance to the salty bacon.

How to Cook Bacon in the Oven:

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare Baking Sheets: Line two baking sheets with parchment paper (or foil or silicone mats).
  3. Arrange Bacon: Place the bacon in a single layer on the sheets. If you prefer, place a wire rack over the sheet and lay the bacon on top for extra crispness.
  4. Bake:
    • For regular bacon: Bake for 15 minutes.
    • Flip the bacon over and bake for another 15 minutes, until crispy to your liking.
  5. Drain Grease: Transfer the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels to soak up excess grease.

Tips for Perfect Oven-Baked Bacon:

  • Lining the Pan: You can use foil for easier cleanup, or parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  • Cooking Thick Bacon: For thick-cut bacon, bake for 20 minutes on each side for a total of 40 minutes.
  • Watch Closely: In the final minutes, keep an eye on the bacon to avoid burning. Everyone prefers bacon cooked differently, so remove it when it’s just the way you like it.
  • Remove Immediately: Take the bacon off the pan as soon as it’s done. If it sits on the hot sheet, it will continue cooking and may become overdone.
  • Dab Extra Grease: Use paper towels to dab away any remaining grease before serving.

Storing Oven-Baked Bacon:

  • Refrigerate: Store any leftover bacon in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • Freeze for Later: Undercook the bacon slightly if you plan to freeze it. Then reheat by microwaving it for 30 seconds when you’re ready for a quick breakfast. It’s perfect for adding to breakfast sandwiches or crumbling into salads.

Bonus Tips for Extra Flavor:

  • Experiment with Seasonings: Try seasoning your bacon with chili flakes, garlic powder, or maple syrup before baking to create exciting new flavors.
  • Use for Meal Prep: Oven-baked bacon is perfect for meal prep. Cook a large batch, store it, and use it throughout the week in sandwiches, salads, or as a snack.

By baking your bacon in the oven, you’ll get crispy, evenly cooked bacon with far less mess. Whether you’re making breakfast for the family or prepping for the week ahead, this simple method will become your go-to for perfectly cooked bacon every time!

Notes

Tip 1: You can opt to line your baking sheets with tin foil instead of parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. It will work just as good and helps to make the clean up much easier!
Tip 2: For thick-sliced bacon, bake for 20 minutes on each side.
Tip 3: Near the end of the cooking time, watch the bacon closely to make sure it doesn’t burn. This is the only time you really need to keep an eye on it. Everyone likes their bacon done a little bit differently. I love mine super crispy, so I leave it in a bit longer, but if you don’t you will want to watch and take it out when it’s done to your liking.
Tip 4: If the bacon is still on the pan when you take it out of the oven, it will continue to cook a bit. If it’s done how you like it, be sure to remove it from the pan right away to make sure it doesn’t cook anymore.
Tip 5: Use paper towels to dab up any extra, undesired bacon grease.
